JOB NEWSLETTER/ EMPLOYER OUTREACH Markets can be inefficient. The goal of the Newsletter is to reduce the informational inefficiencies of our people looking for jobs (our CFA Seattle membership) and the employers in the Seattle area while minimizing costs. Employers pay only $95 for up to a full-page job listing. We, in turn, generally send the Newsletter out to our membership who are interested in a new opportunity in the same day your ad is listed. We continuously strive to improve the process of matching employers and potential new employees, our CFA Seattle members. In year 2004 over 80 Portfolio Manager, Research Analyst, and related professional investment management positions were listed. There are currently 240 subscribers to the Job Newsletter. SCHOLARSHIP The Scholarship Committee of CFA Seattle was set up in the late 1970s to 1) enhance relations with the local educational community and 2) expose the virtues of the analytical community/investmest business through the establishment and award of two scholarships to MBA candidates at local universities. It was funded with the intention of paying for one quarter of public school tuition and books. The Committee has been guided equally by merit (grades) and financial need in making its selection, with the candidate's level of interest in the investment business also serving as a distinguishing factor. Typically, 4-5 CFA Seattle members serve as the Committee, interviewing the 3-5 candidates offered to us by the schools.
Additionally, ten scholarships (5 for June, 5 for December) are granted to CFA candidates to cover all but $150 of registration and exam fees. Preferrence is given to Level I candidates and selection criteria is primarily need-based. Society involvement and/or membership is looked upon favorably. Chair: Jeff Atkin
