    About the speakers: Stephen Horan, PhD, CFA, is the head of private wealth at CFA Institute, where he manages private wealth content as it relates to education and professional development for CFA Institute members. Prior to joining CFA Institute, he was a professor of finance at St. Bonaventure University and a principal at Alesco Advisors LLC. Dr. Horan also served as account manager with Manning & Napier Advisors, Inc., and as stockbroker with Quick and Reilly, Inc. He has published two editions of the Forbes Stock Market Course, a comprehensive guide to personal investing and wealth management, and numerous articles in leading peer-reviewed journals, such as the Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Financial Research, and Financial Services Review. Dr. Horan holds a BBA in finance with a minor in mathematics from St. Bonaventure University and a PhD in finance with a minor in economics from State University of New York at Buffalo.

    Jeffrey E. Horvitz is vice chairman of Moreland Management Company, a family investment office. He is a frequent speaker and author of papers on topics such as portfolio rebalancing, asset allocation, taxation of investments, non-indexed passive equity products, private equity investing, and collectibles. Mr. Horvitz has published articles in financial journals including the Journal of Wealth Management and the Journal of Investing, and he co-authored the CFA Institute monograph Investment Management for Taxable Private Investors. He holds a BA and an MA in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles.

    Scott D. Welch is a senior managing director and member of the executive committee at Fortigent, LLC. He manages Fortigent's Investment Research and Strategy Group, chairs the investment committee, and serves as the firm's concentrated wealth specialist. Previously, Mr. Welch worked at the Globecon Group and Swiss Bank Corporation. A frequent speaker at conferences and seminars on the topics of wealth and risk management, he has authored articles that have appeared in a number of journals. He holds the CIMA® (certified investment management analyst) designation from the Investment Management Consultants Association. He received a BS in mathematics from the University of California at Irvine and an MBA in finance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
