CURRENT CFA SOCIETY OF SEATTLE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES The CFA Society of Seattle is an excellent forum to network and to develop your
leadership skills. One way to get involved is to join a committee, such as the Programs Committee,
the Public Awareness Committee, or the Technical Committee. Or, you may choose to lead a CFA Study Group.
We also encourage members to pursue leadership roles as Committee Chairs or as members of the Board of Directors.
A simple way to get involved is to take on a specific project. There are many one-time-only,
short-term projects that require just a few hours of commitment. These projects all reflect the
CFA Society of Seattle's goals of:
- Providing a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among its members;
- Enhancing members' investment knowledge and professional practices;
- Encouraging high ethical standards and professional conduct among all participants in the investment industry.
Annual Forecast Dinner – The
Forecast Dinner is the CFA Society of Seattle's most fun and visible annual event. Help
plan and organize the dinner, contact potential speakers, secure
sponsorships, create media awareness, or volunteer on the night of the
event.
Annual Investment Career Forum –
Help organize a Regional Career Forum in November or December. Tasks
will include finding companies to sponsor booths, creating public
awareness for the event, and involving local business journalists.
CFA Study Group Facilitator – Lead a
study group for CFA Level I or II.
CFA Educator – Teach university
courses or lead break-out sessions.
Charity Social Events – Help develop
an exciting new kind of charity social. Work with a team to find
sponsors, choose a venue, select an expert to discuss the
wine/art/food/travel or other focus, promote tables to local companies,
then use the proceeds to benefit a charity. For example, San Francisco
raises money through a wine auction, then collaborates with the Wall
Street Journal to promote financial literacy in public schools.
Community Outreach Program –
Participate in a charitable program where members have hands-on impact.
Media Awareness Seminar – Conduct or
help organize a seminar about accounting chicanery or financial
statement interpretation targeted for business journalists (CFAI-prepared
presentation materials are available).
New Member Kit – Create an
information kit to provide to new CFA Society of Seattle members.
Programs Committee Liaison, Eastside or
Southend – Coordinate events to better serve members in these
important regions.
Organize a Program – Submit your
idea to the Programs Committee, and help coordinate the event.
Public Awareness Committee Chair –
Edit the quarterly newsletter, facilitate communication among members,
develop a media presence, and promote the CFA Society of Seattle and the CFA designation
in the local community.
"The Forum" Book Reviews – Help
organize or serve as a moderator for one of our bi-monthly book review
forums in Seattle, Bellevue or Tacoma.
Student Membership Project – Help
develop and promote our new Student Membership category.
Technology Committee – Help the CFA Society of Seattle
use technology to better communicate with / provide information to our
members.
Webcast – Set up a free CFA
Institute educational webcast for members and candidates.
